World War 2 Re-enacted in a Novel by Karl Brockmann

Image
Alles Fur Deutschland   An action-packed, wartime novel about the 1943 Eastern Front featuring retreating German front lines fragmented by a massive Russian offensive. Author Karl Brockmann says “The novel Alles Fur Deutschland originated from my deep interest in this part of our world history. I have been an active member of a WW2 re-enactment society for some years… Over the years I have met many colourful and interesting people including elderly veterans from both sides of the conflict. These gentlemen would often talk about all types of situations they found themselves, situations which most ordinary people could never imagine. It is from listening to these events that I have been inspired to finally put pen to paper and to write my first fictional wartime novel.” Read more... “A sweeping, action-packed, wartime movie, sandwiched between the covers” …publishedbestsellers.com

World War 2 hero who fought through Adolf Hitler's Eagle Nest on a Bavarian mountaintop

Image
Book Reviews: “Clancy Lyall was a tough Texas farm boy who entered World War II as a 16-year-old paratrooper, fought, survived, and thrived alongside of a company of elite soldiers, then reenlisted and fought in both Korea and Vietnam. This is a powerful and warm-hearted story of an American hero, a must-read for any fan of the Band of Brothers.” — Marcus Brotherton, author of We Who Are Alive & Remain "Clancy Lyall was one of the Band of Brothers lesser-known, unsung, heroes. A veteran who transferred into Easy Company after being wounded in Normandy, he fought beside Dick Winters and the others through Holland, Belgium and on to Adolf Hitler's Eagle Nest on a Bavarian mountaintop. The book is like having an informal, one-on-one, chat with Lyall, filled with rich detail and little known facts of the man known as Silver Eagle." — Larry Alexander, bestselling author of "Biggest Brother: The Life of Major Dick Winters, the Man Who Led the Band of Brothe

Memoir of World War II paratrooper Clancy Lyall – pulsating with many behind the scenes details and photos

The official biography of Clancy Lyall, member of the “Band of Brothers”, made famous by Steven Spielberg's and Tom Hanks' 2001 TV-series and Stephen Ambrose's book bearing the same name.  It's Clancy's story in his own words about World War 2, Korea and Indochina, as he witnessed it. Written by his close friend, journalist Ronald Ooms. Author Ronald Ooms says  “Clancy Lyall was a true friend who gave me the chance of a lifetime to fulfil my childhood dream.  And that dream was to write a book some day.  As a kid, I did not know at the time what my future book would be about and when Clancy offered me to write his story some two decades later I knew it was an offer I couldn't refuse...  I truly hope I've done him justice with his official biography called 'Silver Eagle', which was also his Cherokee Indian name.  Sadly my dear friend Clancy passed away in March 2012.” Ronald Ooms is a 34 year-old Belgian author.  He worked for almost a deca

I was intrigued by the book-cover, illustrating a beautiful manor house...

"I must confess I don’t read a lot of romantic fiction, being more of a blood and gore man myself, but I was intrigued by the book-cover, illustrating a beautiful manor house. Now, this was something I could get my teeth into! Like many people, visiting stately homes and gardens over the last two decades, has been one of my abiding passions. In addition to this, I do have a fascination for stories relating to World War Two, and from the very first page I was hooked. I don’t know how you could not like this all-too-short, glimpse into troubled times. I’m still a little baffled as to why the story had such a pull on me, but the simplicity of line and style made the chapters fly by, for a very easy read. The storyline concerns Sarah, a rich girl with the admirable ambition to become a nurse, and Joe, a young boy from a poor family. Their social and domestic situations could not be more different and they meet at a time when the whole world is in turmoil. Very soon Joe is whis

Silver Eagle (Dutch Version) - Pulsating war memoirs of unsung hero

Wild Strawberries ~ "an entertaining read, and a useful addition to the literature on the evacuees"

Image
Most evacuee memoirs that I have read were written by people who were evacuated from London, normally fairly early in the Second World War and often from very poor neighbourhoods. This book differs from these books in just about every way! First of all the author was evacuated from Birmingham, not from London. Second he didn't leave until the Birmingham blitz had been underway for some time (and ironically was somewhat close to ending). Third, the author's parent's house in Birmingham was a modern building, complete with electricity and modern plumbing, and his school was also modern and well designed. This gives the book a different tone - the author was evacuated to a house with less modern facilities than his own, and to an overwhelmed school in an older building. He was also evacuated to a house in a hamlet near Yoxall in Staffordshire, quite close to my own home village. After a comparatively short period here, the author was diagnosed with scabies, and moved to

Panzer Storm - "An intense and bloody combat"

Image
Panzer Storm By Karl Brockmann Recently withdrawn from the horrors of the Russian Front, the 1st SS Panzer Division, are ordered to Belgium for a complete overhaul and refit of its war-torn troops and panzers. Due to growing uncertainty they are redirected on this journey eventually arriving in Innsbruck. With only a few weeks respite they find themselves stationed in Italy along the Po River Plain, to carry out the disarming of several Italian army units, following the capitulation of Italy as allies to the Third Reich. It is not long before they are embroiled in deadly anti-partisan operations covering most of their stay in the country, before being directed back to face the colossal Red Army tidal wave of men and machines once again along the Eastern Front... .. Foreword to 'No Cousin of Mine' by John Noakes*, probably the most famous of all the presenters of the Blue Peter programme

Image
*John Noakes and the author were part of a close group of friends who formed part of the ground crew of Number 256 Royal Air Force night-fighter squadron serving as part of the Second Tactical Air Force in Western Germany and share many memories of that period.. Foreword A chance meeting in Mallorca, brought Derek and I together again after more than fifty years.  It was very pleasant to meet up and although our paths had never crossed again in civilian life it was nice to reminisce, over a glass or two of red wine, about our time in the RAF and especially the time we had been with 256 Squadron at Alhorn.  At this reunion he made no mention of writing a “book” and as people do when they have shared experiences we merely sat and chatted about those things, which stood out in our minds…a trip down memory lane ….taking us back to the early 1950s. They say, and I think it was once a book title ”Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be”…..but in all honesty I think I can say having read D

Candid Reviews of Derek Smith's* Military History Book - 'No Cousin of Mine'

*The author was part of the ground crew of Number 256 Royal Air Force night-fighter squadron serving as part of the Second Tactical Air Force in Western Germany   Reviews I don't know Derek, but what I do know is that he has written a brilliant book. I received it yestday morning and by 3pm I had read it. I just couldn't put it down. Yes I too did my National Service of two years, and ended up at RAF Ahlhorn. I was close to Derek as I worked in the Tech Hanger Library, issuing the maintence manuals for various planes and engines. National Service was not always a bowl of Cherries, but Derek Smith's book shows plenty of light hearted moments. Derek I hope you come out with a part two very soon as it will be eagerly awaited. These sort of books are not too common and this one sets a very high standard. Ken Newton

A candid review of Derek Smith's 'Wild Strawberries'

Image
"I was lent this book by a friend, and was a little concerned as to whether I would enjoy it. It is not my usual type of book. I mostly read crime/murder mysteries. But I was drawn to this book because of it's location. It is set in part of South Staffordshire that I know very well. It tells the true story of the experience of a 9 year old boy who is evacuated from Birmingham during the second world war to the countryside. I was amazed by the courage of the little boy, even when facing adversity, and stuck in a terrible hospital/nursing home for a long time, he never lost his positive spirit, I can definitely say that I would not have coped so well in such miserable circumstances. This boy came from a modern home in the city of Birmingham to live in a very primitive house in the countryside in totally different surroundings.

World War 2 History - Book Trailer

Image
Wild Strawberries | War History by Derek Smith This is the true story of a nine year old boy who, at the height of the Birmingham blitz, is transported from his ‘all mod cons’ big city home to the safety of a house in a remote south Staffordshire hamlet, a mile and a half from nowhere, where he finds himself living in domestic and sanitary conditions that have remained unaltered for over a thousand years – the culture shock to end all culture shocks.
