Bringing you exclusive interviews with authors featured in the Book Savvy Newsletter.

Our Guest is Grahame Howard, the author of four books: 'All Bagged Up', 'The Wishing Book', 'The Wishing Book 2 - Return to Mars' and 'The Wishing Book 3 - Extermination'.

Enjoy the interview.

Q1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your book 'Wishing Book 2'?
I live with my wife and family in Dorset. We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I suffered for 10 years with the disease, Ulcerative Colitis until I had surgery for a permanent ileostomy. I felt quite desperate and if not for my Christian faith I don't know how I would have managed. I wrote about this in my first book, All Bagged Up, to help other people in similar situations.
Being a child at heart, I started writing children's fantasy stories. My story is about some children who find a book with magical powers that grants wishes. This has now turned into a series. The Wishing Book is where the children go to Planet Mars. The second in the series, The Wishing Book 2 - Return to Mars, sees the children back on Planet Mars against their will. The Martian leader is intent on obtaining the book to further his power. A battle commences, the children face horrible scary monsters and evil Martians, are captured and they have to use every bit of wit to escape. A third in the series is also available, The Wishing Book 3 - Extermination.

Q2. When you write what emotion do you seek to evoke in your readers?
I write to create excitement and cause the reader to become completely engrossed in the adventure.

Q3. You have had loads of excellent reviews for your books how do you feel about these?
I love receiving and seeing reviews. It not only encourages me but helps me to discover what my readers want to read.

Q4. How do you get the inspiration for your stories, is it all imagined or do you get some inspiration from real life experiences?
I have always had an active imagination. From childhood I dreamt of Mars and outer space. Being a creative person helps me to take these thoughts and put them into words.

Q5. What is the first thing you did to promote your book once your publisher accepted your manuscript?
I created my own website, I became a member of Authors Den; a site designed for writers and readers I also wrote to many booksellers such as Waterstones, WH Smith etc. and I spoke at some venues.

Q6. If you had to pick just one book marketing tool that you've used to promote your book, which would you say has been the most effective?
Authors Den has been the most effective. This provides promotions, blogs and newsletters and is linked to my own site.

Q7. Do you do more promoting online or offline and which do you prefer?
I prefer to promote online. I use Facebook, Myspace, I use the blog provided by my publisher and have a blog on Authors Den. I also have my own website linked to Amazon. Through online promotion the world is at my finger tips. However, I feel it is also important to promote links with local book sellers.

Q8. Any comments on your publishing experience?
I am so grateful to my publisher for accepting my work. Many authors, like me, have many rejection slips from the big publishing houses. Pneuma listens to people and sees their value, giving them a chance.

Q9. What is next, another book in the Wishing Book series or something different?
The Wishing Book 4 - Aftermath is now finished and I am doing my own editing and re-editing before I feel it is ready to be sent to the publishers for consideration.

Q10. Do you have any closing advice to aspiring writers or even fellow authors?
If unpublished writers believe they have a book within them, then they must not give up. Do not lose heart when a rejection slip comes your way. As Sir Winston Churchill once said, 'Never, never, never, never, give up!'

Thank you for your time. We wish you every success in your writing career.
